Charles Stewart Mott Foundation

503 S. Saginaw
Flint, MI 48502

Founded by the philanthropist and former Flint mayor Charles Stewart Mott, the C.S. Mott Foundation has been a great help to the city of Flint since 1926. Starting with only $320,000 the foundation has endowment of over $2.3 billion today.

There are four main program areas that this organization operates - Civil Society, Environment, Flint Area and Pathways Out of Poverty. Except for the Flint Area program grants are awarded to organizations all over the world. Additionally, Explatory and Special Project grants are occasionally made available for "unusual or unique opportunities to address significant national and international problems".

In recent years, the Mott Foundation has made significant contributions for a number of developments in and around downtown Flint. Among them are The University of Michigan - Flint's William S. White building on the site of the former IMA auditorium (and the notorious Auto World amusement park); the sparkling new Regional Technology Center at Mott Community College; Kettering University's Mechanical Engineering and Chemistry Center, a renovated 60+ year-old industrial building donated to the university by Delphi Automotive Systems; and more recently, First Street Lofts - a Michigan Cool Cities project currently under construction. Without the large contributions by the foundation it is likely that none of these devlopments would be in existance today.
