County Seeks Funds for Durant

May, 05 2006

After receiving $200,000 from the Mott Foundation for initial costs, Genesee County is seeking $5 million in state brownfield funds to clean up the site of the historic Durant Hotel.

The county recenty purchased the building to either restore or demolish the long-neglected building. Demolition, however, will be a last resort.

The grant money from the Mott Foundation was used for initial costs and also to acquire property surrounding the site.

The county will soon begin accepting proposals from engineering and architecture firms and work could finish as soon as 2008 according to an ABC 12 report.
